Aragosa Travel Agency is the official Biomag2010 excursion organizer. They are offering a special Biomag2010 Excursion Program for minimum 20 pax but will be happy to help you plan your individual or smaller group excursions (price and itinerary on request). Contact agent: Mrs. Ivana Pavlovic

Excursions can be booked in advance or on the arrival date at the Biomag2010 registration desk at the venue hotel. For booking in advance, please check the Excursion Program, make your choice, feel free to add any additional requests you may have and email it to Mrs. Ivana Pavlovic at ivanap@aragosa.hr.
You will get a written confirmation of your excursion reservation via email.

Special Biomag2010 Excursion Program – Excursion Description


DUBROVNIK CITY TOUR
Half-day excursion by bus and on foot
09:00 – 12:00 h and 13:00 – 16:00 h

A half-day tour of the Old City included in UNESCO World Heritage Site list. This ancient city surrounded by ramparts and fortresses abounds in architectural and cultural masterpieces carefully preserved for centuries. A pleasant walk will take you to the Rector’s Palace, the
Dominican Monastery housing a rich collection of medieval paintings, the Franciscan Monastery, and other intriguing sites. The tour begins at the hotel, where the guide will wait for the guests. Transfer from the hotel to the Old City is arranged. After the city tour, which lasts approximately 2.5 hours, the visitors are free to continue exploring the Old City on their own. Transfer back to the hotel not included.

Guide, bus transfer from the hotel to the Pile Gate, entrance fees (Rector’s Palace, Dominican Monastery and Franciscan Monastery) included.

DUBROVNIK CITY WALLS AND SIGHTSEEING TOUR

Walking the city walls is the best way to experience the unique harmony of the architecture of the Old City of Dubrovnik and a must-see for all visitors. The city walls are almost 2 kilometers long, 25 meters high and up to 6 meters wide. This fascinating fortification complex comprises numerous towers and bastions, offering magnificent views over the city and its surroundings. The city walls originated in the 12th century and were gradually expanded till the mid-17th century. Apart from light clothes and footwear, make sure to bring along your camera and capture every moment of this amazing time travel.
The tour begins from your hotel, where a guide will wait for the guests. Transfer from the hotel to the Old City.
The first part of the tour will take you to the city walls, followed by a short break before the city sightseeing tour. It includes a visit to the Rector’s Palace, the Dominican Monastery with a rich collection of medieval paintings and the Franciscan Monastery.
The city tour lasts approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, after which the visitors have some free time, and return to the hotel on their own.

CAVTAT & KONAVLE

The excursion begins with a visit to a small, picturesque town of Cavtat, where you will see the valuable collection of paintings by Vlaho Bukovac. The visit includes free time to explore the sights such as the Račić family mausoleum housing the sculptures by famous Croatian artist Ivan Meštrović. After visiting Cavtat, a drive will take you to Poljice, a village in the Konavle Region. A visit to a village house (approx. 1 hour) is an opportunity to enjoy the genuine atmosphere of this village in the near vicinity of the city and taste delicious dishes of the area. The house host dressed in national costume will bid you welcome in a traditional way, offering local brandy and figs. At the village farm you will visit a typical wine cellar, a smoke-shed and a fireplace where bread is baked in the old-fashioned way. You will also have the opportunity to take photographs with the local donkey. Enjoy the exquisite local specialties and soak up the cozy atmosphere.

THE STORY ABOUT SILK
Half-day excursion by bus

Traditionally an important fabric in the Dubrovnik area, silk has widely been used for folk costumes and embroidery, particularly in the region of Konavle. Silk is produced by silkworms which feed on mulberry tree leaves. Several families in the Konavle region are nowadays engaged in sericulture and production of silk. You will visit the home of the Drobac family in the village and see the process of silk production, as well as the manufacture of exquisite details of the traditional Dubrovnik folk costume.
The next part of the tour will take you to a village house, where you will have the opportunity to learn about the village way of life and taste local food and drinks including various kinds of brandy, figs, cheese and olive oil. The departure from the village is around noon. During a 45-minute bus drive back to your hotel you will be able to admire the view of the picturesque Konavle valley.

MONTENEGRO AQUARELLE

This excursion is a unique opportunity to witness the natural beauty of the Montenegro coast with its numerous historical monuments. After a drive through the Župa Dubrovačka region and the Konavle valley, you will pass through the cities of Risan and Perast. From Perast you will take a short cruise to the Island of Our Lady of the Rocks to visit a 15th century monastery there. The next part of the tour will take you to the city of Kotor, where you will arrive around 11:30. This well-preserved medieval city was built from the 12th to 14th centuries. For its exquisite architecture and numerous monuments Kotor was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. After the tour of Kotor, you will visit the antique city of Budva (around 12:30), now an attractive tourist destination. The visit to the old city of Budva includes a lunch and free time till 16:00. Your bus ride back to Dubrovnik will be considerably shortened by a ferry boat taking you across the Bay of Kotor.

ISLAND OF KORČULA

The tour begins with a bus drive along the picturesque coastal area of Dubrovnik to the Pelješac Peninsula, famous for its vineyards and wine cellars. Arrival to the town of Orebić around 10:30 and transfer by a ferry to the Island of Korčula (approximately 15 minutes). One of the most beautiful cities on the Adriatic, the City of Korčula is believed to be the birth place of the famous explorer Marco Polo. A walking tour in the stone-paved streets and squares of Korčula will give you an insight of the city’s history and tradition. Departure to Orebić is scheduled after a lunch Korčula (at 15:00 h). The next part of the tour will take you to the village of Prizdrina, where you will visit a vinery owned by a local family and learn about wine-growing and production of wines. The visit will end with a wine tasting (about 30 minutes). On your way to Dubrovnik, you will also visit the City of Ston (approx. 30 minutes).

The Dubrovnik Republic built the City of Ston in the 14th century in the form of a two-fold fortification system (Large and Small Ston), aiming to protect the salt plants, one of its major economic resources. A 12-kilometre long wall (the world’s second longest wall after the Wall of China) connects two fortified cities: the first was built in order to protect the salt plants and the second as the salt export harbor. The oldest in Europe, the Ston salt plants are still in use, and the salt producing technology has not changed for centuries. Your visit to Ston and its salt plants will be a journey through history.
The present-day Ston is world-famous for its wines and most delicious oysters.
The tour highlights the visit to Veliki Ston and its salt plants, the tasting of fresh oysters and local wines in the authentic historical ambience (salt plants). Some free time is also provided, after which you will be served a lunch typical of the area in a local restaurant.

MOSTAR

Mostar is a city of poetry and stone-paved narrow streets. A traveler coming from the north can feel the first breeze of the Mediterranean there, saturated with the scent of citruses and sea, while a traveler from the south can catch a glimpse of the continent spreading behind it.
Before arriving to Mostar (around 11:30) you will pay a short visit to the city of Počitelj (approximately 30 minutes). A 16th century masterpiece of Islamic art and architecture, Počitelj is one of the most beautiful historic sites of the present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The City of Mostar is outstanding for its buildings and monuments constructed in the course of centuries. The city flourished owing to its favorable geographic position and auspicious economic climate.
A local guide will take you on a one-hour city tour, including a visit the Old Bazaar and the Turkish House. After a lunch at one of the picturesque local restaurants, you will have free time (till 15:30) to explore the city on your own, and visit numerous old craft shops, or a mosque.

MEĐUGORJE

Međugorje is a small town situated in western Bosnia and Herzegovina. It became widely known for the reported appearances of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
One of the world’s most popular pilgrimage sites for Catholics (and people of other faiths), Međugorje is visited by thousands of people every year (thirty million pilgrims since 1981).
You will have the opportunity to visit the Hill of the Appearance and attend a mass at the local church.
